The Final Debt by Pepper Winters ~ Review by Juls

Final Debt (Indebted, #6)Final Debt by Pepper Winters
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*** I Love Story Time was gifted an ARC in exchange of an honest review ***

5 Star Series!

"What have I done? I knew what I'd just done. I'd made whatever my future held worse. Because this was it. The end. There would be no going back from here. No second chances. They would take from me. Tear apart everything I had to give. And I hoped to God I would take from them before it was over."

Wow! What a series! Pepper Winters has truly outdone herself with the Indebted Series. I have been intrigued with this story from the very beginning, and I have been looking forward to every single release since! There was so much that went on in this series, it literally left me on the edge of my seat! The different debts that Nila had to endure were ... crazy. Honestly, I don't even know if that's the best way to describe the extent of the abuse that she had to live through. Nila is seriously one of the strongest heroines that I have read about. Jethro is definitely a character that I will not be forgetting anytime soon! Jethro and Nila created a bond that was unreal while living under severe circumstances. Everything they went through only made them stronger.

I really enjoyed all of the books in this series. However, when Nila had to pay the third debt, now that scene alone made that book! My heart felt like it was going to beat right out of my chest. In my opinion, by far, the best scene in the series! That's saying a lot considering that there are 7 great books to this series. I am thrilled with the way it all came to an end. As a huge fan of Pepper Winters, it has been an honor to be a part of her journey with these two beloved characters. I am excited to see what's next!!

Holy Shit! That ending! Whoa! Talk about a way to leave you gasping for more! This was my first C.A. Harms novel, and I am excited to say that I truly enjoyed it! It was super sexy and suspenseful. PROLOGUE

There were nasty looking bruises on his cheek and jaw, his lip was swollen and his knuckles were scraped and bloody.  The instant I got a good look at his face I knew something was horribly wrong.  It only went downhill from there.

My attempts to contain my panic weren’t working.  Choking back a sob I blubbered, “Why do you have to go?”

The anger was all but pouring off of him.  Not toward me—he’d never once been angry with me. I knew anger though, and it was more than obvious he was furious about something. A permanent grimace seemed to have set up camp on his face.  For him, it was highly unusual.  Even in the toughest of times, he kept his cool.

Suddenly, he wasn't calm at all.  He was angrier than I’d ever seen him.  It was obvious he’d been in a fight, but it didn’t change his status as the most attractive guy alive, in my opinion.

I saw his jaw clenching and unclenching which I figured meant he was trying to control himself.

“Because this piece of shit town is like a fucking cancer,” he spat.  “I’m so done with the crazy assholes around here. People like us aren’t normal—we’re the freaks for trying to be good people.”

I didn’t know how to argue with his words.  He wasn’t wrong—there was a lot wrong with many of the people in our town. Most of the crazy people were either my family members or his.  I knew it and so did he.  There wasn’t a response to erase the reality of the kind of people we dealt with.

“Are you going alone?”

His hands clenched into fists at his sides as he nodded stiffly. “Yes.”

“Even though you live with—”

His hand shot up into a stop gesture to keep me from finishing the sentence.

“Don’t say her fucking name. If I never hear it again, it’ll be too soon. I don’t live with that crazy bitch anymore.”

I couldn’t stand her so it wasn’t like I was going to push. She was an evil troll. If he had to go, I was glad he wasn’t taking her with him.  It would’ve made me ill. She pretended to be sweetness and light when he was around but it was nothing but a charade.  She was terrible.  I was glad he wasn’t taking her, but the fact he wouldn’t say her name told me his leaving was somehow her responsibility. I hated her more than ever.

“Where will you go?”

He gestured back over his shoulder toward the street with his thumb.

“Wherever my car takes me once I pull out,” he said.

I couldn’t imagine life without him, nor did I want to. Not only had he been my crush for as long as I could remember, he was the only person who ever really listened to me.

“Will you ever visit?” I asked hopefully.

He was shaking his head in the negative before I’d even fully finished asking the question. I knew he wouldn’t. The bone-deep hatred he had for everything about where we lived was stamped all over his face.  I wanted so badly to know what, exactly, had sent him over the edge, but when I asked, he’d refused to tell me.

It sucked being fourteen because he treated me like a kid.  My age said I was a child, but I was so different than any of my peers it wasn’t even funny.  Because of this, they teased me often, referring to me as Granny Carmichael.  I hated it.  It wasn’t as though I’d had a choice.  My childhood was over the moment my mother got sick.

His expression softened when he looked me over. “You need to get back inside before you get pneumonia.”

The frigid Colorado air wasn’t even making an impression on me until he pointed it out. I realized my tears were leaving cold trails on my face, but I couldn’t walk away. All I cared about was how much I didn’t want him to leave.

“I don’t care about the cold or getting pneumonia.  I don’t want you to go!” I cried anxiously.

He hugged me then, his strong arms wrapping around me to give comfort.  I hadn’t hugged him since I’d been much younger—probably five or six.  Those hugs had mostly involved me wrapping myself around one of his legs.  This was different. I wrapped my arms tight around him and cried against his chest, holding on for as long as he allowed me to.

“I’m sorry,” he said as he ended the embrace and stepped back. “I have to leave.”

Knowing my denial and resistance weren’t going to make any difference, I swiped at my tears as I nodded.

“I’ll miss you,” I said on a choked sob.  “Take care of yourself.”

“I’ll miss you too,” he replied softly.  “You’re one of the few good people here.”

My heart galloped in my chest. I loved him for saying what he did—but hated that it came at such a horrible price.  Losing him was unbearable.

He turned as if to leave, then stopped.  Spinning back my way, he stared at me intently for a few moments before he spoke again.

“You’re so much better than any of these people. Don’t ever let them change who you are. The world needs a lot more you and a lot less them. No matter what anyone tells you—you’re perfect.  Got it?”

I nodded as I wiped at the tears running unchecked down my face.

He hugged me again, very briefly. My heart skipped a few beats when he dropped a kiss on top of my head.

“Don’t ever forget your worth—not even for a minute,” he murmured.

When he let go, he said nothing else.  He just turned and walked to his car.  As he went, the chill in the air suddenly took hold of me.  Hugging my arms around myself, I watched as he got into the car, turned it on and then pulled out of my driveway.  He looked at me one last time before putting his hand up in a goodbye gesture.  I did the same.  A few seconds passed before he put the car in drive then sped off into the night.

I stayed outside for two or three minutes, hoping against hope he would change his mind and come back.

He didn’t.

Hours later when I got into bed, I prayed fate would bring him back one day.  I said the same prayer most nights for a long, long time. Eventually I had no choice but to accept reality.

Hell would freeze over before he returned.

Here’s the same old “girl posing as a boy” story but with a rock-n-roll twist.
Remy Curran dreams of one day being in a band, except the group she wants to join refuses to hire a girl drummer. So, she auditions as a guy...and makes the cut.
Becoming “Sticks,” a member of Non-Castrato, isn’t quite what she dreamed it would be, though. She spends most of her time keeping up the subterfuge and learning how to walk, talk, act, and drink like a man.
But what’s even harder to deal with is acting oblivious when the band’s heartthrob lead singer, Asher Hart, treats her like one of the guys and not a woman. She never imagined he’d be so much more than a pretty face with a nice voice. But he’s better than perfect. He’s perfect for her.
When love and lies combine, Remy must keep up the act or lose everything. But who knew lying to reach one dream could prevent you from attaining an even bigger dream?

4 Stars!

“If you love someone enough, you find you can forgive them for just about anything, because living without them is more miserable than any grudge you could hold.”

I have to admit that I was a little hesitant to read, The Girls Got Secrets, since it's book #7 in the Forbidden Men series. I have not read any of the prior books from this series, so I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to connect with the story or the characters. However, I'm excited to say that I enjoyed both! I really liked Asher and Remy's story. It reminded me of a movie I watched growing up that had the same type of storyline. Yes, like the blurb said, a "girl posing as a boy" story is not anything new, but it didn't make me enjoy it any less! There were quite a few things I liked about it and there were so many parts that made me laugh. My favorite part was when Remy was telling Asher what being in a "relationship" is like...

“At first, it’s nerve-wracking as hell. You’re always afraid to show your true self. You just want them to see what you think they’ll like, so you’re always on edge, hoping to impress him and trying to figure out if you even like him in return. Even though it’s kind of thrilling and exciting too. But then...then something finally clicks, and you realize you have this...thing...this amazing thing in common with each other that you don’t really have in common with anyone else. Pretty soon, you’re opening up more of yourself and discovering that more parts click, and before you know it, life is amazing and you’re thinking about them night and day. You can’t wait to see them again, and you love everything about everything.”

I really liked Asher! I felt so sad for him. Knowing what he went through while growing up and that he had never really been a part of a family broke my heart. But like most stories, Asher and I both were left with a HEA!

"My gut twisted with the knowledge I would never have that quiet peace, those tender moments of knowing you were completely owned, body and soul, by someone else."
~ Ryan

I was so eager to start Silent Scars, that I blew through it too fast and now I'm sad that I'm going to have to wait another decade for the next one! LOL. Okay...maybe not quite a decade, but that's what it feels like when I'm waiting to read the next book from Ada Frost. I look forward to her new releases, and I probably become a crazy stalker while I wait. Yes...her books are that good!

I was so excited to get Ryan's story. Ryan was everything that I thought he would be. I knew he would be a dark, intense alpha with lots of love inside him. I also knew he would surround himself with brick walls. Ryan didn't let anyone get close. Even his brothers had a hard time getting close to him. His life was hard while growing up. He was abused and used constantly. As a result, he believed he didn't deserve to be happy. He believed that he had nothing to give and could never see himself loving anyone or receiving anyone's love in return. Then he meets Aloura, and she is everything that Ryan never knew he needed. Aloura was pretty tough and never gave up on Ryan. She fought for him when no one else would and had no problem telling him what she wanted. She made him believe that he was worth it.

“I don’t want to be someone’s possession Ryan. Belongings can be expendable, thrown away when they are old and dirty. I want to be a part of you. I want to wake up each morning with a feeling of completeness because I know you’re near. I want your soul to greet mine. Show me all of you. Give me your pain and I will give you my joy.”

“A man willing to break my heart doesn’t deserve my tears. But a man strong enough to protect it, is worth everything. You Ryan, are worth everything. You just need to believe it.”

I really liked Ryan and Aloura together. Their relationship at times was difficult, but I'm glad that Ryan is getting his HEA. I'm so happy that everyone from The Surviving Series got their HEA. This series is seriously one of the BEST series that I have EVER read. EVERY story got 5 stars from me. Honestly, I would have rated them more than 5 stars if I could! Every single book gutted me, although my favorite one was book 2, Surviving Love. I LOVED Johan! His story probably made me cry the most. However, when I found out this was the conclusion to the series, I wanted to ugly cry all over again. I know I will be rereading this series again. Ada Frost, I just want to thank you for all these AMAZING stories. I cannot wait to see what you have in store from here on out!!

Hi! What to say about myself...I love to read, and create stories for others to enjoy. I've always been told I have a vivid imagination, I just lacked the confidence to pursue putting it onto the written page. But finally I embarked on making a single dream come true.
I love to read, and write. I only read romance, any genre really, but it has to have a beautiful romance. I also demand a HEA, even if it takes two or three books to get there. Reality is too broken and jaded without having to live through the trauma and angst in a book for it to end unhappily.
