“I died that day. My soul vanished, and my heart quit beating, yet, I’m still alive with blood pumping through my veins, but I was a casualty on the side of the road.”

After reading the last two words in the epilogue, –Jed Bryant, I literally had to put my kindle down because I couldn’t stop crying. The ugly cry, when your struggling to breath, was in full effect. Prior to reading this, I saw so many comments stating to be ready to ugly cry or that you better have a box of tissues ready. For me, the crying didn’t start until I was more than half way into the story. For a minute there, I was thinking that maybe I needed to slow down on the dark reads because the story that everyone was calling the “ugly cry” was barely managing to get a few tears from me shed here and there. I should have known better. Because about 70%, I was looking for my tissues. I have been dying to read this from the minute the cover was released. HJ Bellus had me captivated before I even finished the prologue! I connected with the characters and even with the songs that were mentioned. It not only made me ugly cry; I laughed out loud more than a few times! But mostly, I loved that it showed us that during our hardest times, when we feel like we will never move on, there’s always someone that will bring us our second chance.

“Isn’t that what we are doing, Marlee? Fixing each other, breathing life back into our hope for the future.”
