I leaned against the doorframe, hands tucked in my front pockets, and observed. It took her three minutes to notice me. Another two to lift her jaw off the floor, straighten her spine, and turn scarlet. Our eyes met across the room, and that nagging murmur in my chest happened again.
Get that checked. If you drop dead from a heart attack at forty, you’ll have no one else to blame. She winced, looking like I physically slapped her.
“Mr. Fitzpatrick.”
“Miss Penrose.”
“Veitch,” she corrected, just to spite me.
“Not for long,” I noted dryly. “A word?”
“I know many. My favorite one right now is—leave.”
“You want to hear me out.” I cracked my knuckles. “Now say goodbye to your little friends.”
She looked back and forth between the kids and me, then turned and murmured something to the teacher next to her, and hurried my way, dunking her head down. “What are you doing here?”
She closed the door behind her, whisper-shouting.
I’ve been asking myself the same question since bailing on Keith and his snooze-fest speech. What the hell was I doing here?
HOLY HOTCAKES! This story is delectable! I consumed it from start to finish. It's been a while since I've read a book that I didn't want to put down! I could not get enough of Cillian and Persephone. Gah, that prologue! What a punch to the throat. It gutted me! After reading it, I just knew this story was going to be EPIC and it was!
If the devil went by any other name, it would be Cillian Fitzpatrick. Good grief, this man put me through one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. I couldn't decide if I wanted to junk punch him or lick his face, lol. Everything about him made me crazy!
I absolutely LOVED Persephone. I have to say that she is by far my most favorite L.J. Shen heroine. If I ever get to come back as a book character, I want to be her. Her heart and her her strength continually amazed me. I'd have her back any day!
Readers are going to DEVOUR this fan-freaking-tastic read. Fans of L.J. Shen are going to lose their ever loving mind! It was EVERYTHING we Sparrows have come to love from this incredible author. Brilliant storytelling, a sinfully HOT, complex anti-hero, a smart, strong heroine, and a kick ass love story. I mean seriously, what more can a girl want? I LOVED IT!
