5 Stars!
"When you meet the person you're supposed to be with for the rest of your life, they make you whole. They're your other half. Yes, life can be good, but once you meet your other half, it's fucking wonderful. That's not an unhealthy dependency, Freya. That's what soul-mate's do for each other. That's what you do for me".
Not too long ago I Love Story Time posted a cover reveal for Scattered Colors. The minute I read the synopsis, I could not wait to get my hands on it and was truly hoping that there was going to be an ARC available to review! So...when I got an email offering to review this story, I was so excited!! The minute I started it, I could not put my kindle down! I was pulled in from the beginning up until the very end. Let me also say that I not only could not put it down, I also could not stop crying. Once the tears started, they did not stop. This was a really emotional read, and I loved every minute of it!
I loved Parker!!! Everything about him made me feel all fuzzy inside! LOL! Parker has so much on his plate when it comes to his family and his ex-girlfriend. His life has been crazy and he has been barely getting by until one day on his way home walking along the beach, he sees Freya. Freya is going through the loss of a family member and is struggling with her relationship with her father. So when Parker approaches her, she isn't open to meeting new people and pushes him away. When Parker and Freya come across each other the next day at school, Parker does everything he can to get her attention. With the walls that Freya has put, Parker tells himself that no matter what, he will not give up when it comes to her. He knows there's something about her that draws him to her and can tell by just one look into her eyes, that she is struggling just like him. When Parker finally gets Freya to open up, everything changes. Parker and Freya's relationship starts out as friends but, little by little, Parker gets closer and closer to her heart. Then when everything is going good, Parker is given an ultimatum that will either break his family apart or break Freya's heart.
There is so much that goes on throughout this story that broke my heart. There were so many times I felt bad for both Parker and Freya. The life that Parker lives is heartbreaking. The things that he has to live with regarding his dad and the support he is constantly giving his mom brought tears to my eyes. I loved everything about Parker. The words and encouragement he always gave his mom and the love and support he gave Freya, showed how big of a heart he truly had. Parker knew all the right words to say to Freya. I think I almost highlighted every word that came out of his mouth! The love he constantly showed made me fall more and more in love with him. I also liked that the story was written in two parts. We were able to see them when they were young and in high school and then also as adults in college. It really shows the reader the lives that they led and their personalities as teenagers versus adults.
As you can tell, I really enjoyed this story and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an all consuming, emotional read. This is the first story that I have read from Jessica Prince, and I can most definitely say....it will not be my last! I am really looking forward to reading more from this author in my near future!
