I cracked my neck and slowly turned to face him. I opened my eyes. “What the fuck did you just say to me, boy? You better start running.” “Wait, what?” Kevin asked, taking a step back and tripping over the sprinkler. He stood up and bolted through the gate. I chased him through the field while Dre looked on and laughed. “I take it all back! You’re not my brother!” I shouted, tackling him to the ground and sitting on his chest. “What the fuck, Preppy?” Kevin asked, squirming under me. “You and I need to have a serious fucking talk.” I leaned down until my nose was almost touching his. “About the abomination that is waffles.”

Not only was this dark romance raw and riveting, it was full of heart and it has captivated me from the very first book.

She shakes her head and laughs. “I don’t judge. It sounds to me like your therapy has helped you see what it is you need versus what you thought you wanted, and I’m so happy you’ve recovered from your injury and you’re able to return to work. So many agents aren’t as lucky as you.” There’s a spark of sadness in her eyes. A look that only the friends and family of those in law enforcement get when they think of those who aren’t as fortunate as I am. I nod in agreement. “Which is why I was excited to take this opportunity here in L.A. with your brother. He’s giving me another chance to prove myself. California is a fresh start for me.” I smile at her and she smiles in return, and it’s soft, caring, and does things to me that I’m not sure I’m ready for. “So what do you do?” I ask, turning the questions on her. I’m done spilling my garbage. I want to hear about her. She drops her eyes from mine and takes another drink of wine before resting it on her thigh. “I’m an attorney. If you need anything secured before then, I have a safe and an alarm on this house. I am really enjoying The Elements Series! Every single one has brought tears to my eyes. Others have been more emotional for me than, The Gravity of Us, but Brittany C. Cherry is killing it these story lines! My heart broke for Graham. I can understand why he was so guarded when it came to letting people get close. This is a tough review for me to write. I wanted to love this book, but I had such a hard time connecting with these characters. I read it in bits and pieces while traveling, and I think that may be why I wasn't able to be consumed by this story as I have been by this author's Dirty Money series. That being said, I am not turning my back on Nick and Faith! Lisa Renee Jones never disappoints, so I am confident that book 2 is going to be the book to pull it all together for me. After all, there are lies to be exposed and the truth to be revealed. I am counting down the days until the release of Shameless!
