"I know a lot of you know my story. At least the highlights. I have to say, it's been pretty dark lately. But for the first time in a long time, I feel like there is hope on the other side. That's something I'd forgotten." ~ Emery
It was hard for me to rate this story because there were some parts that I liked and some parts that I struggled with. I know authors spend a lot of time while writing their books so I do want to be respectful and honest with this review.
What I did enjoy the most was Cole. It seemed that when it came to Emery, he knew exactly what she needed. He never gave up on her. It didn't matter what emotions Emery was fighting through, he never let them get in the way. So when Emery tells him they can only be friends because she's not ready to move on, he has no hesitation of saying what he feels..
"You'll wait for me?"
"I'd wait forever, I'll do anything for you Emery James. I'll be everything you need."
I really feel that Cole was the character that I was able to connect with. When it comes to Emery, I couldn't really connect with her. I understand that she's struggling with what she is going through, but after a while, I just wanted her to snap out of it. She had Cole by her side the whole time since returning home and yet at the times when she should have embraced him and how far they have come, she continued to push him away. I think that is what bothered me the most about her. Even though she wanted to be with him, she needed to be on her own to "find herself"? I never understood that. Why can't you find yourself while being with someone you love? Overall, I would say it was a good book and I was happy with the ending!
