Ryan's Bed by Tijan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Wow... this was such a profound read. Unfortunately, MacKenzie’s story is relevant in my school district. Eleven teenagers from our local high school committed suicide in 2017. Mental illness is no joke. It affects more people than we even realize. Feelings of fear, defeat, guilt, solitude, and uselessness are only a few of the emotions blamed for the destruction suicide leaves behind. It is those that are left behind that struggle to survive; as we see with MacKenzie.
Ryan’s Bed was an emotional read. As I followed MacKenzie as she tried to move beyond the loss of her twin sister, my heart broke for her and her family. Their sense of loss was evident on every page. Tijan did such an incredible job of putting all of MacKenzie’s emotions on paper. Her character was like an open wound... vulnerable and raw. Her story is one that will stay with you after the last page.
Ryan’s Bed is not a light, sexy read. It’s a story about loss, grief, healing, and finding love when you need it the most. It a story you don’t want to miss!
