5 Stars!
I am literally sitting here after reading Ugly and telling myself to take deep breaths. O.M.G! I just... I just don't even know where to start. The minute I read the synopsis, when ILST received the sign up for the cover reveal, I knew I HAD to read this story. I also knew my heart was going to break the whole entire time I read it.
I will say if you are someone that has a hard time reading about abuse, this is NOT the story for you. I have read some pretty dark stories and just reading the prologue got to me. I literally had to mentally prepare myself for the journey I was about to embark on.
Ugly was a raw and emotional story. I was in tears throughout the whole book. I just couldn't believe the life that Lily was living. At times, I really wanted to throw my kindle. At one point, I told my sisters that Lily was pissing me off! I just couldn't understand why she would subject herself to such a miserable life. I couldn't understand why she would continue to live the way she was living and not remove herself from that situation. But then, I realized, I don't "understand" because I thankfully have never been in her situation. I then understood that Lily really didn't know any better. Her situation was exactly what she had been living with her whole life.
I loved the characters in this story. Shayne and Liam are good people. The relationship they had together was really cute. The relationship they had with Lily was admirable. I really liked Max as well. He was seriously too cute! LOL. He really did warm my heart! I was so happy that he was able to bring good into Lily's life!
